For the second time this season, Nebraska football lost a winnable game, this time it came against No. 3 Oklahoma. Here are three takeaways.

Nebraska football head coach Scott Frost is still searching for a defining win and while his Huskers were as close as they’ve been in his four years Saturday, they fell short to third-ranked Oklahoma.

There’s no shame in Nebraska football losing 24-17 to Oklahoma, which is expected to contend for the College Football Playoff.

However, when you had as many missed opportunities as Nebraska did Saturday and when that’s a reoccurring theme — it’s hard to have any positive feelings about yet another close loss.

Here are three takeaways from a brutal defeat for Nebraska football Saturday:

Adrian Martinez was a mixed bag

Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez kept the Huskers in the game. He was 19-of-25 for 289 yards. He also threw a touchdown and had one key interception in addition to a rushing touchdown.

Yet, he just makes too many mistakes, like taking sacks when he should throw the ball away. His inability to get rid of the ball is frustrating but it pales in comparison to Nebraska having three drives deep into OU territory result in zero points. ZERO.

Nebraska had two missed field goals, as well as the interception by Martinez.

Yes, the kicker needs to make those field goals. But you can’t kick a bunch of field goals and expect to beat the Sooners in Norman.

Did Oregon settle for field goals last week?

Nebraska can’t either and that was the story of the game, along with the special teams’ failures.
