Best teams to never make CFB Playoffs: 3. Houston, 2015

Do you know how many people believed in the Houston Cougars at the beginning of the 2015 college football season? If we excluded the state of Houston, probably zero.

Yet, despite the naysayers and the lack of support, Houston went on to have one of the most dominant seasons in recent memory.

After nine straight victories, Houston found itself ranked number 16 in the nation. From there, they were set up beautifully. In three of their next four games, Houston was scheduled to face ranked opponents. All they needed to do was run the table and there was a very good chance that Houston would’ve punched their ticket to their first College Football Playoff.

The Cougars toyed with number 16 Army, winning 52-31. They followed that up with a 24-13 win over number 20 Temple. Houston would then take care of business against number 9 Florida State, winning 38-24. The only problem for Houston was that they completely fell asleep at the wheel against an unranked UConn team a few weeks prior.

In the end, that loss cost them a spot in the big dance.
