Best teams to never make CFB Playoffs: 9. Oklahoma, 2016

For the most part, only one of two things normally happen with Oklahoma during the college football season. Either they’re considered serious contenders to win it all, or they’re a disappointment. During the 2016 season, Oklahoma dealt with a bit of both.

They came into the season ranked as the number 3 team in the nation. They then went on to wet the bed, losing to number 15 Houston in the season opener before taking another loss two games later to Ohio State.

The Sooners were 1-2 and unranked. But while the rest of their schedule seemed difficult to navigate, Oklahoma finally began looking like the team most were expecting. They won their next ten games in a row and in the process, knocked off the likes of number 21 TCU, number 25 Baylor, number 10 West Virginia, number 11 Oklahoma State, and number 17 Auburn. In all but one of those games, Oklahoma won by double figures.

Just think, a team that had so much expectations heaped on its shoulders crumbled underneath the weight of that pressure. But, they turned things around in the blink of an eye.

Blowing through four straight ranked teams is something we won’t forget. Considering that Washington was utterly destroyed during their first game against Clemson in the College Football Playoff, Oklahoma should’ve taken their place.
