College Football Rankings 2021: Winners, losers from Week 4 AP Top 25
Winner: Michigan State (Up to No. 20)
The Spartans proved that they might be able to make some noise in the Big Ten East with their win over Miami on Saturday. Head coach Mel Tucker has turned this program around quicker than expected and getting a win over a top 25 team is a big deal for Michigan State.
The running game looks like one of the Big Ten’s best with Kenneth Walker III and Payton Thorne has been a really reliable starter at quarterback.
The defense is still giving up a lot of yards, but they should improve as the season goes on.
The schedule is going to get tougher as the season goes on, with games against Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State still left, but count out Michigan State at your own risk. This is a team with an identity and that can be a dangerous thing.
Winner: Fresno State (Up to No. 22)
If you were not convinced that Fresno State was a good team after they nearly upset Oregon, you should be after they took down UCLA late Saturday night. This is one of the best Group of Five teams in the country and they more than deserve their new ranking with the way that they have played so far this season.
The Bulldogs should be the clear favorites in the Mountain West with the way things have played out so far. Nevada had a disappointing game against Kansas State and Boise State lost to Oklahoma State. This is a team that could still keep climbing as the season goes on.
