Texas A&M Football: 3 hot takes from shut out win vs. New Mexico
By Shelbie Warr
2. Zach Calzada still has growing to do
Quarterback Zach Calzada finished 19-for-33 for 275 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception. The interception was on a throw-away and had no business being an actual interception, but was the picture-perfect moment to show that Calzada still has growth to do. That should have been well out of bounds and well away from any defender.
Otherwise, he started out strong and eventually leveled out thanks to not-so-great play from his offensive line.
That, as I said before, has to get better. Calzada has got to make better reads and maybe even run at times because he finished with negative rushing yards that didn’t help his team one bit.

Calzada did make a few great throws, one of which is shown above. We saw the emergence of some young receivers that were able to get separation for Calzada, but he still had some issues making the reads necessary to find those receivers.
There is some growing to do in practice before they face off against an Arkansas defense that made Texas look silly just a couple of weeks ago.
