The breakneck pace at which college football conference realignment has been taking place is nothing short of jarring. AAC football could be next to join the trend.

Oklahoma and Texas were the first dominoes to fall in conference realignment, deciding to head to the greener pastures of the SEC.

In response, the Big 12 decided to invite Houston, Cincinnati, Central Florida, and BYU to replenish their conference.

This game of musical chairs now leaves the American Athletic Conference with three fewer teams and a need to restock their league with the biggest and best teams available.

Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports has a report out, identifying the handful of teams that the AAC would like to invite to join the top non-Power Five conference in the country.

Multiple sources have told CBS Sports that the AAC would like to take a close look at Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, San Diego State, and UAB.

One has to wonder what the priorities are for the AAC when looking for new member schools. Are they searching for the best football programs? Large schools in big cities? From this rumored list, it’s hard to say what direction the AAC may be heading in for conference realignment.

Here at Saturday Blitz, I’m taking a closer look at these candidates and are ranking them based on their fit within the existing schools in the AAC.
