Welcome back to the watch. This week, one of our Group of Five members has fallen. The Marshall Thundering Herd fell to the East Carolina Pirates on a last-second interception on the goal line 42-38 at home this weekend. Thus their watch has ended.

When one falls, another arises. This week, the San Diego State Aztecs join the watch after a thriller of a victory against the Utah Utes Saturday night. The top of the watch has not changed, with both Cincinnati and BYU notching Power Five wins.

However, other teams are waiting in the wing if one (or more) should fall. Though the Fresno State Bulldogs have one loss, their weekend’s victory against UCLA has them near the watch. Pat Hill was somewhere smiling at that win.

Also, in the Mountain West, both Utah State and Wyoming are undefeated. Utah State has a Power Five win against Washington State, but Wyoming has no Power Five teams on their schedule.

Both Memphis and SMU are also undefeated from the AAC. The Tigers defeated Mississippi State, albeit under weird circumstances. The Mustangs have TCU in the Battle for the Iron Skillet this weekend. After losing seven in a row, SMU won last season 41-38.

Who will represent the Group of Five? Here is this week’s New Year’s Six watch. New Year’s is Coming.
