3. SMU at TCU

The Mustangs and Horned Frogs meet for the 100th time in the battle for the Iron Skillet. TCU has dominated the series as of late, winning eight of the last 10. SMU did win the 2019 matchup and still maintains bragging rights as last year’s matchup was canceled due to TCU having a COVID-19 outbreak.

TCU breezed by Duquesne to open the season and got a close win against Cal two weeks ago. Now after an extra week to prepare for their biggest rivalry game, TCU is looking to win their last game before their Big 12 season starts. Quarterback Max Duggan needs to be more consistent but he has good chemistry with wide receiver Quentin Johnson, who leads the team with nine receptions, 133 yards, and two touchdowns.

SMU so far in three games has the look of a high-powered offense. Quarterback Tanner Mordecai is on fire right now, having thrown for over 1,000 yards, 16 touchdowns, and only two interceptions. The Mustangs are averaging over 530 total yards per game. Wide receivers Danny Gray and Rashee Rice lead the team with four touchdown receptions each.

This could be a real fun game and the potential for a  shootout is there. Both teams have the offensive firepower to turn it into a track meet. Mix in the rivalry hate and this game is well worth a watch.
