Georgia Football: 3 takeaways from decisive win over Vanderbilt
1. The defense is the single-best unit in college football
It is not a big statement to make that Georgia has a good defense. It is also not wrong to say that they might have the best defense in the country. What I have seen through the first few weeks of the season is one of the best defenses that I can remember.
The Bulldogs seemingly have no weakness on any level of their defense and this is a unit that has not had one of their key transfers play yet in West Virginia safety transfer Tykee Smith.
What Georgia’s defense did to Vanderbilt’s offense was just demoralizing for anyone watching. The Bulldogs held the Commodores to under 100 yards and anytime that you can do that to anyone, that is impressive. Critics will say that it does not matter because they played Vanderbilt, but I don’t think the opponent should matter when you achieve this level of dominance.
Going forward, this defense is going to have some interesting challenges. Arkansas and Auburn have dangerous ground games and Florida is always a challenge with a coach like Dan Mullen. This is the best unit in college football through four weeks and they will get better as the year goes on.
