Can the first Big 12 game of the year really be considered a must-win for Iowa State football?

Well, after struggling against Iowa State in Week 2 and dropping out of the top 10 after a loss, there’s a good chance that another defeat eliminates the Cyclones from College Football Playoff consideration. So in that case, yes, this is a must-win game for Iowa State in Waco against Baylor.

It’s not going to be easy, however. The Bears are 3-0 and have one of the most explosive offenses in the conference through the first three weeks.

Let’s dive into some bold predictions for Saturday’s matchup.

3. Iowa State holds Baylor under 150 rushing yards

On paper, this doesn’t sound like the boldest prediction of all-time, but this would be an incredible feat for Iowa State given the start the Bears have had on the ground this season. In fact, the Bears rank fifth in the country in rushing yards per game with 323.7 and Iowa State is going to hold them to under 150.

Let’s be fair here, though, the Bears haven’t exactly faced a defense with a pulse yet, so that’s why the rushing yards have ballooned.

Don’t get me wrong, Baylor has a really good backfield, but Iowa State is going to give the Bears a reality check.

Iowa State made life difficult for Tyler Goodson of Iowa in Week 2, just imagine what it’s going to do with the Bears’ stable of backs.
