Marcus Freeman is perfect fit to lead Irish defense

Marcus Freeman called a great game for Notre Dame football on Saturday. When you think of Wisconsin you always come back to the Badgers being able to run the ball on the ground.

Freeman set up the perfect game plan and the Irish players did their job on the field. Notre Dame held Wisconsin to only 78 rushing yards on the afternoon.

The Irish were without one of their key defensive lineman in Kurt Hinish who missed the game with an injury which makes the performance that much more impressive.

The Irish linebackers and the defensive backs had a great afternoon as well, especially in the fourth quarter. The Irish picked off Wisconsin quarterback Graham Mertz four times on the day. The Irish were great at baiting Mertz into throws that he should not have been making at the time.

Just a few weeks ago people were questioning the hire of Marcus Freeman and his defensive schemes as a whole. I don’t think there are a lot of doubters now. Last week the defense played better as a unit, but this week against Wisconsin the Irish were superb as a unit.

Marcus Freeman is the perfect fit at Notre Dame overall. He is only four games into his Irish coaching career but he is just warming up.
