All five state of Michigan football FBS teams may not have played well from start to finish but they all were victorious in their Week 4 games. All five programs played at home and none of them faced off against an FCS opponent.

Central Michigan, Michigan, and Michigan State won their games by single digits while Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan were able to win theirs by double digits.

Some games were bigger than others as Michigan State and Michigan played fellow Big Ten teams while Eastern, Western, and Central Michigan played non-conference opponents. Regardless, all five teams won and all five are undefeated at home.

Let’s look at the wins by the five state of Michigan football teams from Week 4.

Backup quarterback Daniel Richardson came into the game to replace Washington Huskies’ transfer and starter Jacob Sirmon. Richardson, a freshman from Miami in his second straight game where he had double-digit passing attempts, did very well in the fourth quarter where he impressively three for three touchdowns. He helped the Chippewas come back from a 17-point second-half deficit to defeat the Panthers 31-27 to get their second win of the season.

Central Michigan’s freshman running back Lew Nichols III had a great game as well as he rushed for 152 yards as well as having four receptions for 43 yards and a touchdown.

Central Michigan’s only two losses were on the road to SEC opponents LSU and Missouri which is understandable. The Chippewas’ next two games are on the road against Miami (OH) and Ohio to open conference play.

Senior Eastern Michigan quarterback and Cincinnati grad transfer Ben Bryant has had a difficult start to the season but after a solid performance last week against UMass, he had by far the best game of his colligate career against Texas State. He led the Eagles to victory behind his 228 yards passing and three touchdowns. Bryant also ran the ball for 52 yards and a touchdown as well.

Sophomore running back Samson Evans ran for two touchdowns and junior wide receiver Dylan Drummond threw a touchdown pass and had five receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown.

The Eagles are 3-1 on the season with their only loss coming on the road to Wisconsin. Eastern Michigan’s next two games are against Northern Illinois on the road and then they host Miami (OH) at home.

Western Michigan won its third straight game after a season-opening loss to Michigan. The Broncos were led by their defense which only allowed a first-quarter field goal and shut out San Jose State for the second, third, and fourth quarters.

Western Michigan’s defense recovered two fumbles as well as coming up with an interception. They held the Spartans offense to only 119 total yards of offense and San Jose State was able to only pass for 59 yards against the Bronco defense. Western Michigan’s offense was led by sophomore quarterback Kaleb Eleby who threw for 200 yards, no interceptions, and two touchdowns.

The Broncos open MAC conference play on the road against Buffalo and then hosts Ball State the following week.
