3. Sam Hartman is the best quarterback in the ACC

In a conference with Sam Howell, D.J. Uiagalelei, and even Brennan Armstrong, Sam Hartman is playing the best football of any quarterback in the ACC. Hartman has completed 66% of his passes for 961 yards, nine touchdowns and one interception.

You will not see Hartman atop any conference leaders in yards or touchdowns, but his command of the offense is top-notch. Admittedly, Hartman is the beneficiary of a balanced offensive attack.

Virginia’s run game is abysmal, leaving the lion’s share of the offensive responsibility on Brennan Armstrong. The same could be said of Sam Howell at North Carolina, though Howell has comported himself as quite the runner the last couple of games.

That said, Hartman has such a command of Dave Clawson’s offense, which was on full display against Virginia. Hartman did an excellent job of managing both tempo and the RPO game. Sometimes it is essential to know when not to throw.

Hartman and Clawson realized the running game was working, and the Demon Deacons used the passing game in a complimentary way. Most importantly, there is a difference between having the most talent and playing the best.

Hartman is not the most talented quarterback in the conference, but no one is playing better football right now.
