Ranking the biggest losses and college football upsets, Week 4
A great Week 4 of college football is in the books, including five AP Top-25 teams losing games this week
Before we get into the worst losses and biggest upsets from this week, let’s take a quick look at some of the teams who barely escaped Week 4 of college football with a win.
First up is Auburn, who very nearly lost to Georgia State 34-24. The final score of the game doesn’t tell the whole story of this near upset. Georgia State was up 24-19 with 45 seconds remaining in the game. Auburn scored a touchdown and converted a two-point attempt to make it 27-24. With 31 seconds remaining in the game, Georgia State threw an interception and Auburn returned it for a touchdown and extra point, making it a 10 point victory of the Sun Belt Conference opponent.
Second, Michigan almost lost to Rutgers, coming out on top 20-13 in this Big Ten Conference game. I’m almost hesitant to even say this was a near upset, simply for the fact that Rutgers has a really solid college football team this year. The Scarlet Knights entered this conference game 19th in the country in points scored per game (41.0 ppg) and 9th in the country in points allowed per game (11.3 ppg).
Finally, Oklahoma had quite a scare against West Virginia, prevailing on a field goal to avoid overtime 16-13. Michigan State took Nebraska’s biggest and best punch, surviving 23-20 in OT. Wyoming eked out a win over UConn, one of the worst teams in college football 24-22
Now, let’s take a look at the teams who were actually able to pull off the upset in Week 4.
