College Football 2021: Predictions for the top games of Week 5
By Shelbie Warr
This week is full of ranked matchups that could change who gets into the College Football Playoff and who doesn’t; who achieves their goals, and who doesn’t.
Things are getting exciting y’all, so let’s jump right into it.
1. No. 8 Arkansas at No. 2 Georgia
This game is more exciting now than it ever was supposed to be, that much I can tell you honestly. No one pegged Arkansas as a top-10 team, especially not me. However, here we are at the showdown between KJ Jefferson and Treylon Burks against JT Daniels and that Georgia defense.
Who will come out on top? Will Georgia be able to win their big game of the year? I will tell you that Georgia has given it up seven times in the first four games. If Arkansas can generate those turnovers and capitalize on them? Oh mama, we got ourselves a game.
Pick: Georgia
2. No. 7 Cincinnati at No. 9 Notre Dame
This one is interesting, especially when Notre Dame has gone down to the wire almost every week outside of a blowout of Wisconsin a week ago. Then there is Cincinnati who has done well overall but really hasn’t played anyone of note. Is this the game that really breaks them into the big-time?
Desmond Ridder for Cincinnati has played stellar football and Jack Coan is currently injured and some fans are calling for his backup anyway, so that makes for quite the game.
Pick: Notre Dame
3. No. 12 Ole Miss at No. 1 Alabama
I am probably most excited about this game than any other that is on the schedule for this week. This is a rematch of a game that nearly knocked off the Tide a season ago. Yeah, the final score was 63-48, but that is a high-scoring matchup and the Tide had all they could handle against a team with no defense to speak of.
Now, they have a semi-functioning defense and the same high-flying offense. Is this the year that a former assistant knocks off Nick Saban?
Pick: Ole Miss
4. No. 21 Baylor at No. 19 Oklahoma State
Look at Baylor, finding some way to be undefeated heading into Week 5. We should all be so proud. Both of these teams are undefeated and looking to prove that they could be the Big 12 representative in the playoff over an underperforming Oklahoma.
This game will go a long way in deciding who is that representative, in my opinion, because I think that the Sooners are overrated and we are going to see them exposed by the end of the season.
Pick: Baylor
