3. Louisville at (24) Wake Forest

Not sure too many people predicted Louisville and Wake Forest would be at the top of the ACC Atlantic division at the beginning of October. The two surprising teams will square off this Saturday afternoon.

At 4-0 Wake Forest has taken advantage of not-so-good teams. They beat Old Dominion to kick off the season then defeated Norfolk State from the FCS a week later. Beating Florida State in years past would have been an accomplishment but the Seminoles are a shell of their former selves. Finally last week the Demon Deacons took care of Virginia, another not-so-good ACC team.

So how good are the Demon Deacons? The jury is still out and honestly, even with a win over Louisville, we still will not know how good they are. That is because Louisville is another flawed team.

The Cardinals have a dual-threat quarterback in Malik Cunningham who could give the Deacons some trouble. Cunningham has 13 total touchdowns on the year, five through the air, and eight on the ground. However, he is basically their only threat on the ground. The Cardinal defense is not really good either, giving up nearly 250 yards a game through the air and over 410 total yards per game.

Wake Forest finds itself ranked for the first time since the 2019 season. They started that year 5-0 and ranked when they lost to an unranked Louisville in a wild 62-59 shootout. The Deacons will aim for history not repeating itself.
