College Football Rankings 2021: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 6
Mark Stoops has done it again. Right when everyone just assumed the Wildcats were going to be mediocre, at best, this season, they’ve exceeded expectations and have crawled into the AP Top 25. A win against Florida is huge not only for the seasonal outlook but also for the rivalry. Kentucky is going to be a pest all year in the SEC.
Honestly I wasn’t expecting NC State to struggle to put away Louisiana Tech in Week 5, but I should have known given the nature of the win the week before. Beating a team like Clemson in an emotional battle can take a toll on a team and a 34-27 win over Louisiana Tech is just one of those “burn the tape and move on” type of games.
Poor Ole Miss. The Rebels gain all this confidence through the first month and they have Alabama there on Oct. 2 ready to bring them back down to earth. The Rebels were smacked around by the Tide from the opening kickoff as the offense could never get anything going. Like Arkansas, I see a drop here, but not out of the AP Top 25.
Florida may have essentially been eliminated from the playoff race after losing its second SEC game of the season, this time to Kentucky on the road. The Gators are still solid and they showed that they can hang with teams like Alabama, but stumbling against Kentucky was unacceptable. There’s still time to rebound and make a New Year’s Six push, however.
I’ll be the first to admit, I didn’t think Auburn would go on the road to beat LSU but the Tigers won a big road game in Death Valley. Bo Nix was benched a week ago and was able to lead the Tigers to a win on Saturday night in comeback fashion. This was Auburn’s first win at LSU since 1999 and Bryan Harsin is off to a 4-1 start in his first year.
