3. Irish couldn’t overcome early mistakes

Notre Dame dug themselves a hole early in this game. In the first 18 minutes of this ball game, the Irish threw two interceptions and muffed a kickoff return. Both of the interceptions were a result of pressure in each quarterback’s face.

For Jack Coan’s interception, he had to shake off a delayed blitz and chucked the ball into the end zone. As for Tyler Buchner, he was hit as he threw which resulted in Deshawn Pace ending up with the ball.

Chris Tyree has had a tough start to 2021 and muffing a kickoff return was the icing on the cake. This gave Cincy a short field and sucked the life out of Notre Dame stadium.

Credit to the Irish defense for keeping the team in this game despite mistakes on offense and special teams. They did not let the Bearcats run away with this game and forced three three-and-outs on the day.

Drew Pyne rejuvenated the crowd and his teammates with his presence and production. As great as the high energy in the stadium was, it wasn’t enough to erase the 17-point deficit in the end.
