After an exciting week of college football, the Group of Five power rankings for Week 6 are ready

We saw a ton of movement in this week’s Group of Five power rankings, with 10 teams in our rankings losing games this week.

The teams that top the Group of Five power rankings continue to show why they are the best. Five teams are now nationally ranked, with an additional seven teams receiving votes in either (or both) the USA Today Coaches Poll or the AP Top 25 College Football rankings.

With that, let’s get to the rankings.

Boise State (16), South Alabama (17) and Utah State (18) have all dropped out of the Group of Five power rankings this week.

Week 5 Status: Lost 14-24 vs Illinois

Charlotte lost a winnable game against a Power Five opponent this week at Illinois. The 49ers couldn’t get anything going on the ground game, totaling just 81 rushing yards as a team. Meanwhile, Illinois ran all over Charlotte, grinding out 332 total rushing yards. The 49ers have a chance to bounce back in a Friday night nationally televised game this week when they take on FIU on Oct. 8 on CBSSN.

Week 5 Status: Lost 30-34 to Navy

It’s not a total surprise that UCF lost this week since they were missing their starting QB and starting RB due to injuries. Losing your starting backfield is a tough break for the Knights, but the loss was to a winless Navy team. Gus Malzahn will need to formulate a plan of action with a tough home game coming up this week against East Carolina.

Week 5 Status: Lost 31-34 vs Temple

What is happening to the Memphis Tigers? They started off the 2021 college football season 3-0 behind true freshman QB Seth Hennigan, including an upset over Mississippi State in Week 3. But Memphis hasn’t been the same since that game.

The Tigers got off to a 21-0 start last week against UTSA, but ended up losing that game 31-28. The same thing happened again this week against Temple. Memphis got off to a 17-0 start but ended up losing 34-31. Memphis needs to figure it out quickly with three more games until a bye week.

Week 5 Status: Won  28-21 vs Old Dominion

Texas-El Paso is playing winning football because they’re able to close games. Three of their four wins this season have been by 10 points or fewer. Sophomore QB Gavin Hardison has been airing it out this season, averaging 227 passing yards per game this season. UTEP has the second-best record in Conference USA, only behind UTSA (5-0).

Week 5 Status: Lost 28-16 to Ball State

Army was undefeated heading into Week 5, but got beat by a one-win MAC team in Ball State. Army gave up 21 points in the first half and couldn’t climb back from the hole in which they found themselves. Army will have the week off before traveling to Madison, Wis. to take on the Wisconsin Badgers in Week 7.
