3. Brent Davis, Army offensive coordinator

If Georgia Southern wants to get back to its triple-option roots again, Brent Davis would be the man to call.

Davis has served as the offensive coordinator for Army football since 2014. Prior to his time at Army, Davis was the offensive coordinator at Georgia Southern for four seasons under head coach Jeff Monken, who he would follow to Army when Monken was hired.

His offenses at Army have included some of the best rushing attacks in the nation. Currently, the Black Knights rank second in the nation with an average of 318.2 rushing yards a game, and they have 19 rushing touchdowns so far.

The Army offense has consistently finished the season ranking in the top five in rushing offense over the past five years. At the end of the 2017 season, he was a nominee for the Broyles Award, the award given to the nation’s top assistant coach, after a record-breaking year in which the Black Knights led all of college football with 362.3 yards per game and scored an Army record 50 rushing touchdowns.

The offensive success has helped the Black Knights compile a 3-1 bowl record over eight seasons, with three straight wins from 2016-18, and another appearance in 2020.

As was mentioned, Davis is familiar with Georgia Southern from his time as offensive coordinator of the Eagles. He is familiar with the area, and with his success with the triple option, he could help GSU get back to the top of the Sun Belt and compete with the bigger teams in the conference like Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina.
