3. Northern Illinois at Toledo

Some MACtion to lead it off as Northern Illinois travels to Toledo to take on the Rockets. Both teams are 3-2 but 1-0 in the MAC West. The winner will get a leg up in the division race as we head into mid-October.

The Toledo defense is one of the better ones in the country. The Rockets rank 17th in the country and first in the MAC when it comes to scoring defense, allowing only 16.6 points per game. They are also allowing just under 300 yards per game, having recorded 13 sacks and 10 turnovers.

Northern Illinois is scoring nearly 29 points per game so it may be difficult for the Rockets to hold the Huskies under their average. Rocky Lombardi, the Michigan State transfer, has been a solid dual-threat quarterback for the Huskies. The junior signal-caller has 781 yards through the air with five touchdowns. He needs to find a way to limit his interceptions though, with five already on the year. On the ground, he has 230 yards and four scores.

With both offenses scoring around 30 points per game, there could be a lot of points scored in this one. Toledo has the edge with their defense so the Rockets likely make just enough stops to hold off the Huskies. Nevertheless, the game is worth a watch, especially if you are a fan of the MAC conference.
