College Football 2021: Predicting the top 4 games of Week 6

A solid weekend of college football is ahead of us. We’ve got rivalries, top 25 showdowns, and some potential upsets on our hands.

Before we get into the list, I don’t want to make this an all-SEC list. So in addition to these picks, give me Arkansas over Ole Miss and Kentucky over LSU in other great games this weekend.

1. Texas vs. Oklahoma

The Red River Rivalry is always fun. Last year’s thriller saw Oklahoma win 53-45 in four overtimes in a stadium that was only 25 percent full due to COVID-19 restrictions. This year, all 92,100 fans will be back at the Cotton Bowl in full force creating one of the best atmospheres in the country.

Expect points. Two offenses with the potential to once again end up north of 40 points will provide fireworks all afternoon. Texas is still in the hunt for the Big 12 title, but they’ll need some style points if they hope to make a national statement.

Prediction: Oklahoma

2. Penn State at Iowa

You know how people sometimes stereotype Big Ten games as low-scoring, great defensive battles with turnovers and lots of field goals? This might actually live up to that billing. So if you like defense, this is the game for you. Two stout defenses face off against opposing offenses that are prone to struggles.

This looks like one where it’ll come down to field position and which team can make a big play late. Unlike Oklahoma vs. Texas where both teams could end up with 40, it’s possible neither Penn State nor Iowa hit 40 total points here. This could be just round one in a preview of the Big Ten Championship game. I’m just not totally sold on Iowa yet. Even at home, I trust Penn State more.

Prediction: Penn State

3. Alabama at Texas A&M

I have this game listed as an upset alert. I refuse to believe Texas A&M is such an average football team. You know Jimbo Fisher is going to have his team pumped up for this game and they’re going to give everything they have.

But do they have enough? If the Aggies struggled with Mississippi State, can they really hang with the Crimson Tide? This was supposed to be a top-five showdown, but instead, it’s No. 1 against a team fighting to stay above .500. Texas A&M might give Alabama all it can handle, but it’s hard to see the Aggies keep up.

Prediction: Alabama

4. Georgia at Auburn

Consider this game a bit of a wildcard. If the Bo Nix of last week shows up, we’re going to see a great game. If the real Bo Nix shows up? It might turn into a bloodbath.

Georgia is, in my opinion, the best team in the country. Auburn is far from that conversation, but I think they’re good enough to ruin someone’s season. Unfortunately for Auburn, this isn’t that game. Georgia has too much talent on both sides, while Auburn has far too many questions and inconsistencies.

Prediction: Georgia
