Heisman Trophy Candidate No. 2: Matt Corral, QB, Ole Miss

Matt Corral didn’t have a bad game against Alabama last week. He was 21-for-29 for 213 yards and threw one touchdown but ran just three total yards due to sacks.

I’m sure Alabama was happy with the final stat line: 216 total yards and one score, as well as allowing 21 total points. What is still working in his favor is the fact that he had a seven-touchdown game against Tulane, as well as some other memorable moments.

He’s also going to have more. Playing for Lane Kiffin gives him the chance to put up big numbers and make some eye-popping plays as he did against Louisville.

And following the loss to Bama, Ole Miss will be back on the big stage against Arkansas in a game with implications in the SEC, especially for going to the Sugar Bowl or the New Year’s Six.

For Corral, if he can have a stellar day, it will put him right back where he needs to be in the Heisman Trophy conversation.
