Nebraska football lost in brutal fashion on Saturday night and here are three key takeaways for the Huskers after a loss to Michigan.
Just when you thought Nebraska football couldn’t lose in a more brutal fashion than before, the Huskers fumble on what could have been a game-winning drive and lose by three.
Gut-wrenching is the best way to describe the way it felt for Nebraska football fans, at least in words that can be printed without restriction.
The 3-3 Huskers were in desperate need of a win over ninth-ranked Michigan. Not only for bowl hopes but for the program, for progress.
Nebraska has improved under Scott Frost and has legitimately played well enough to be 6-1 or 5-2 right now. This team is good enough to have won every game.
But instead, Nebraska football is 3-4 and needs a minor miracle just to make it to a bowl game for the first time under Frost.
It was a dark day for Nebraska football and here are three takeaways.
Martinez is a blessing and a curse
Have ever watched the show Monk?
The main character, who is a detective with OCD calls his illness: “A blessing and a curse.”
That’s the best way to describe Adrian Martinez. He’s a blessing and a curse.
Martinez was spectacular at times on Saturday night. He threw three touchdown passes in the second half and ran for another touchdown. He also fumbled at the worst possible time.
Following a first-down run, the ball was stripped out as he fought for extra yardage. It was brutal but it wasn’t a one-off. Martinez is the king of untimely turnovers and it’s a big reason why this team can’t get over the hump.
The quarterback on the other side has one interception all season. It came against Nebraska but that was his one big mistake. Martinez fumbled and threw a pick — both led to Michigan points and for all the great plays he makes, he can’t get away from the costly errors.
