Just like the college football season took a turn on Saturday so did the 2021 Heisman Trophy race and we rank the top five contenders after Week 6.

There’s no doubt that college football needed some of the upsets it has seen this season such as North Carolina State beating Clemson or Texas A&M knocking off Alabama.

The 2021 season was starting to have that inevitable feeling of Georgia-Alabama deciding things and that could well be the case still.

But now, if Alabama gets to the SEC title game, it can be eliminated with a loss to Georgia. That wasn’t the case before and it adds another layer of excitement to the season.

While his team faltered, Bryce Young was solid and threw for a season-high 369 yards and three touchdowns, although he did have one INT.

Is Young still our leading contender or was Matt Corral able to catch him with his late touchdown against Arkansas? What about Kenneth Walker, Desmond Ridder, and other contenders? We rank them here after a wild and crazy Week 6 of college football.

Heisman Trophy Contender No. 5: Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati

The Bearcats quarterback dropped a spot in our Heisman rankings after last week and it was just a matter of circumstance. He played well against Temple and threw for 259 yards, as well as three touchdowns. It’s just hard to impress all that much against the Owls.

That’s going to be the biggest issue for Ridder going forward. Due to his level of competition, his stats are going to have to be off the charts, and throwing for 259 yards isn’t going to cut it.
