Big Ten Football Power Rankings, Week 7: Iowa reigns supreme

3. Ohio State Buckeyes (5-1, 3-0)
After the Ohio State Buckeyes demolished the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, head coach Greg Schiano commented that the Buckeyes were “hitting their stride.” Schiano could not be more right. After losing the Oregon Ducks at home in Week 2, the Buckeyes are rounding into shape.
Opening weekend, Minnesota was able to keep the game within one score until the fourth quarter. If the Gophers had a healthy Chris Autman-Bell, the outcome might have been different. The Gophers took the air out of the ball and limited Ohio State’s possessions. The Buckeyes used their ability to make big plays to win that game.
Against Tulsa, the Buckeyes once again started sluggishly out of the gates. The Golden Hurricanes were down just one score in the fourth quarter before the Buckeyes’ superior offensive talent helped them pull away late.
Then the Buckeyes turned the corner against Akron. Ohio State did to Akron what Ryan Day wants to see (or any head coach of an elite program for that matter) the Buckeyes do to lousy football teams.
Akron scored first, and the Buckeyes scored 59 unanswered points. Ohio State was sharp offensively and disciplined defensively. The Buckeyes did the same to Rutgers and then to Maryland.
The Buckeyes are playing like a team that knows everything is right in front of them, and they happen to have the most explosive offense in the conference.
