For the first time since 2008, Georgia football is ranked No. 1 in the AP Top 25. It might just be a number to Kirby Smart, but this is a big deal for any program.

For their first game since earning that No. 1 ranking, the Bulldogs will host Kentucky in a game that should determine who wins the SEC East and go to Atlanta for the SEC Championship.

Despite this being a top 15 matchup, Georgia is heavily favored to win this game. The Dawgs are three-touchdown favorites, but that does not mean that Kentucky is a poor team. Georgia is just that good.

It’s unclear if quarterback JT Daniels is going to be back for this game or if Smart is going to rest him up for the neutral-site game against Florida. Stetson Bennett IV has been a great fill-in for Daniels in his absence and he should be fine against a Kentucky defense that is missing their top two interior defensive linemen.

This matchup is going to hinge on Kentucky’s ability to throw the football. While the Wildcats have the SEC’s leading rusher in Chris Rodriguez, it’s going to be nearly impossible to run on Georgia’s historically great defense. Georgia has three potential first-round picks on the defensive line and they are not going to allow Kentucky to run the ball. If Kentucky cannot create explosive passing plays, it is going to be a long afternoon.

The fact that the Wildcats are even playing in a game of this magnitude speaks volumes about Mark Stoops as a coach. He has built a great program in Lexington and even if they lose this game by a lot, Stoops has earned a lot of respect and Kentucky should still be alive for a New Year’s Six game.

Here are the three reasons that Georgia will beat Kentucky this weekend.
