College Football Rankings 2021: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 8

Things are heating up in the college football world.

We are still a few weeks away from the first edition of the College Football Playoff rankings and there are 10-15 teams that look like they have a legit shot to make the field.

Week 7 gave us more clarity, however.

The week kicked off with a couple of potentially important Friday night games between Oregon and Cal and also Clemson at Syracuse. Both teams escaped major upsets to remain in the hunt for at least a New Year’s Six bowl. Clemson had another horrid offensive effort, but a missed Syracuse field goal saved the Tigers. Oregon needed a fourth-quarter comeback at home to beat a 1-4 Cal team. The Ducks are in the top 10 but Clemson is fighting to get into the Top 25.

We saw some wild action in the afternoon slate with Oklahoma going on the road to beat a solid Texas team and Auburn going to Arkansas to pull off the “upset” to get back into the rankings. LSU, too, picked up a big win, beating Florida, saving Ed Orgeron’s job.

The biggest upset of the day came in the late-afternoon slate as Purdue went into Iowa City and beat the No. 2 Hawkeyes on their own field by 17.

Alabama handled Mississippi State on the road and Ole Miss escaped an upset against Tennessee. Week 7 was wild and the Top 25 will see a big shakeup.
