This year is Ed Orgeron’s last with LSU football. These five men are possibilities to replace Orgeron.

LSU athletic director Scott Woodward released the following letter via Twitter at 7:10 p.m. ET on Sunday evening.

After winning the 2019 National Championship, Ed Orgeron will coach out the season for the LSU Tigers and not be retained next year. There was an expectation of winning in Baton Rouge that Orgeron did not meet after LSU’s historic championship season.

Recruiting was not the issue; the Tigers had three top-five recruiting classes (2019, 2020, 2021), which are currently in the top 10. After Dave Arranda (defensive coordinator) and Joe Brady (passing game coordinator) left, Orgeron had issues hiring the right coordinators.

Bringing back Bo Pelini did not work on defense; Scott Linehan did not work either. This year, Orgeron brought in Daronte Jones and Jake Peetz and that has not worked either.

You get fired when your ceiling is the national championship, and you don’t get close for consecutive seasons. That’s life in places like LSU and the SEC.
