LSU Football: 5 possible candidates to replace Ed Orgeron
By Dante Pryor
2. Billy Napier, Louisiana HC
If Scott Woodward calls William “Billy” Napier and offers him a contract, Napier’s only question should be, “how long do I need to pack my bags?” LSU is the type of job that Napier has held out for since taking the head coaching position at Louisiana.
Napier has been a candidate at other schools in the SEC, namely South Carolina, Arkansas, and Tennessee. However, Napier wants a job where he can win a national title. Napier has shown an ability to run a program and recruit well.
Is the feeling mutual between Napier and LSU? Napier certainly has the resume. Before being named head coach at Louisiana, Napier was an assistant under Dabo Swiney at Clemson and Nick Saban at Alabama.
Woodward, however, is the type of Athletic Director that likes the big-ticket hire. Woodward hired Steve Sarkisian away from USC and lured Chris Petersen away from Boise State. While at Texas A&M, Woodward became one of the few Athletic Directors to attract a sitting Power Five coach with a National Title to a new job.
Napier might not be flashy enough to hire Woodward, despite Napier’s potential to do well there.
