With the emergence of true freshman quarterback Caleb Williams, it is possible Oklahoma football QB Spencer Rattler decides to transfer. If so, where could Rattler go?

Two weeks ago, true freshman quarterback Caleb Williams came in and led Oklahoma football to one of the greatest comebacks in Red River game history. During the week, head coach Lincoln Riley was as hush-hush as possible concerning who would start this weekend against TCU.

This week, an Oklahoma student reporter spying on practice revealed Williams practiced more with the first team than Spencer Rattler, fueling rumors that Williams was taking over the starting quarterback job.

If head coach Lincoln Riley decides to start Williams for the rest of the season, Rattler could transfer. Rattler’s father, Mike Rattler, helped fuel those rumors with comments in OU daily last week.

Where could Rattler go, should he decide to enter his name in the transfer portal? There is the possibility Ratter chooses to stay in Norman and play for the Sooners. He and Lincoln Riley have a close relationship.

Riley offered Rattler a scholarship early in his high school career. No one should not ignore the depth of that relationship. It is in the realm of possibility that Rattler does a Jalen Hurts and stays at Oklahoma another season before transferring.

It is hard to see Rattler going east of the Mississippi. The Arizona native sees himself as a west-coast guy, so it would be a surprise to see him in the SEC, Big Ten, or ACC. You likely see Rattler either land somewhere in the Big 12 or Pac-12.

A couple of other longshots for Rattler’s services include Iowa State and Colorado. This year is Brock Purdy’s last season in Ames, and head coach Matt Campbell would love a starter the caliber of Rattler to lead his offense.

Oklahoma did well when Rattler had the most success; the Cyclones can run the football and play defense. Colorado could use a quarterback the caliber of Rattler to galvanize the program under second-year coach Karl Dorrell.

Here are five more likely landing spots for Rattler.
