Big Ten Football Power Rankings, Week 8: Iowa loss means new No. 1 team
By Dante Pryor
The Ohio State Buckeyes have the best roster in the Big Ten. However, they can’t top the power rankings because they did not play this week. Everything is beginning to regress toward the mean in the conference.
The Buckeyes are averaging 54.5 points per game in their last four. The opponents have not been juggernauts, but Ohio State has jumped all over these inferior opponents. Indiana is up next for the Buckeyes. Let’s see if the Hoosiers can keep Ohio State under 40 points.
The Spartans found a way to win this season, narrowly escaping Bloomington with the 20-15 victory. That game sets up what should be a physical old-school ground and pound game with big brother Michigan.
The Spartans know what they want to do offensively and defensively. Offensive coordinator Jay Johnson wants everything to flow from the running game. Kenneth Walker III has been one of the best running backs in the country this season, and the Wolverines will key in on him.
The Wolverines are going to watch the tape from the Indiana game a lot before Oct. 30. The one advantage the Spartans have against Michigan is a bye week before hosting the Wolverines. It’s been a while since Michigan-Michigan State was this important of a game.
