College Football Rankings 2021: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 9
Texas A&M really didn’t have any problem with South Carolina in Week 8 and the Aggies continue to improve as the season goes along. Jimbo Fisher shrugged off LSU rumors and his team didn’t seem fazed by the off-field distraction as the Aggies were up four touchdowns before the Gamecocks could even blink. The Aggies look like SEC contenders.
Oklahoma State will be one of two teams to drop out of the top 10 this week after losing to an unranked opponent. Iowa State gave Oklahoma State all it could handle, but the game was tight throughout, so you can’t be too upset if you’re a Cowboys fan. Oklahoma State remains a Big 12 title contender and isn’t out of the playoff conversation just yet.
Wake Forest beat Army on Saturday afternoon 70-56. No, it wasn’t a basketball game. Yes, Wake Forest’s offense is for real. The Demon Deacons were able to score at will and Sam Hartman had his best game of the season, throwing for 458 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for another. He needs to be in the Heisman conversation and Wake needs to be in playoff talks.
Mark Stoops has had an incredible season thus far and he got the perfect bye week following Kentucky’s first loss of the season to Georgia. The Wildcats can watch the film from the loss and figure out what needs to be worked on. At least they have the toughest game on their schedule out of the way and there’s a decent chance they win out and finish 11-1. Man, would that ever shake up some playoff rankings.
Iowa had a bye this week, but I just don’t see AP voters giving them more respect than Notre Dame or Ole Miss which beat USC and LSU, respectively. The last time we saw Iowa, it was dominated by Purdue at home and we watched the Boilermakers get handled by unranked Wisconsin in West Lafayette this weekend. Iowa stays at 11.
