I was considering predicting Baylor as a top-10 team in the initial playoff rankings in Week 10, but then I remembered that Oklahoma State beat the Bears by 10 about a month ago in Stillwater. That will give the Cowboys the nod here as the No. 10 team in the first playoff rankings of 2021.

That’s a perfect spot for Mike Gundy and the Cowboys, especially after they lost their first game of the season a week ago against Iowa State.

Oklahoma State controls its own destiny at this point and has three winnable games against TCU, Texas Tech, and West Virginia on the schedule before facing Oklahoma to end the regular season. If Oklahoma State wins out, a serious discussion has to be had about the Cowboys getting a top-four nod.

The Cowboys beat a bad Kansas team in Week 9 by 52 points to improve too 7-1 and bounce back from that loss to Iowa State a week ago, so I think the committee has them just ahead of Baylor in the first rankings.
