One of the longest-tenured coaches in college football has decided to step down. With Gary Patterson gone, where does TCU Football turn?
In a bit of shocking news on Sunday night, TCU football and head coach Gary Patterson have now decided to part ways after a disappointing start to the season. This felt like it could be moving in that direction with the way that the Horned Frogs had been playing so far this year and it finally happened on Sunday night.
Patterson has spent the past 24 seasons with the TCU football program, with 21 as the head coach, and did a lot of great things for the program. TCU was not a winning program when Patterson took over, but he helped take the program to new heights, including multiple BCS bowl games and victories. He helped get the Horned Frogs into the Big 12, where they have struggled since joining. The best season that he had in the Big 12 was in 2014, where he nearly took TCU to the college football playoff.
It is going to be interesting to see where the Horned Frogs go with this coaching search. This is a job that has not been open in some time and it will be interesting to see the interest level in TCU. The school plays in a big city and market and is already a part of a power five conference.
The school has a commitment to football and I think they are going to want to get out ahead and make a great hire so they can make sure they are well-positioned to play well in the new Big 12.
Here are who I think will be the top three candidates for the TCU Football job.
