Heading into Week 10 of the college football season we take a look at the top five contenders in our 2021 Heisman Trophy watch.

The 2021 Heisman Trophy race needed some sizzle and it got some last Saturday from Kenneth Walker III who made himself a serious contender with 195 rushing yards and five touchdowns in the win over sixth-ranked Michigan.

Walker has the Spartans ranked third in the College Football Playoff rankings and in contention for both the Big Ten title and a playoff berth.

Walker, who has just under 1,200 yards for the season, is also a clear Heisman Trophy contender.

In terms of Heisman moments, no one else can match what Walker has done. Yet, it’s hard for running backs to win and he’s got work to do.

Is he our No. 1? Here are our top five contenders following Week 9 and heading into Week 10 of the college football season.

Heisman Trophy Candidate No. 5: Caleb Williams, QB, Oklahoma

Kenny Pickett held this spot last week and before that, it has been Desmond Ridder but Pickett’s team was upset by Miami and Ridder just hasn’t been all that impressive.

I guess you could say I’m about as impressed with his Heisman resume as the committee is with the Bearcats playoff resume.

Caleb Williams didn’t start at the beginning of the season but has been dynamic since taking over for Spencer Rattler. He led the Sooners to a come-from-behind win over Texas and had six touchdown passes last Saturday, as well as two in the second half against Kansas.

Williams has 14 touchdowns and only one interception. And because the race is so wide open, plus key games ahead against Baylor, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, and likely the Big 12 championship game, he will have plenty of time to impress voters.
