ACC Football Power Rankings, Week 10: Can Wake Forest keep winning?
By Dante Pryor
According to David Cutcliffe, the Blue Devils are practicing well, but the results are not coming on the field. Running back, Mateo Durant is having an outstanding season, rushing for 973 yards and nine touchdowns. However, the offense has sputtered, scoring seven points in the last two games.
Is it time for Cutcliffe and Duke to part ways? That is a possibility. Cutcliffe has been in Durham for 14 seasons, and it could be time for a new voice. No matter what the Blue Devils’ administration decides, Cutcliffe deserves the opportunity to go out on his terms. Duke plays Pitt this weekend.
Head coach Jeff Hafley has to wonder what could have been as the Boston College Eagles prepare for the Virginia Tech Hokies this Friday night. Quarterback Phil Jurkovec’s injury derailed what could have been an excellent season in Chestnut Hill.
The Eagles have scored just 40 points in four ACC games this season, overshadowing what has been a much-improved defense this season. Boston College has allowed over 25 points twice in conference play — an impressive feat considering their offense does not keep the ball very often.
When head coach Geoff Collins looks back on this season, consistency on offense and defense will be a big topic during offseason workouts and spring camp. Georgia Tech has looked good defensively in some games but bad offensively. Their 14-8 loss to Clemson is a perfect example.
The offense has played well, but the defense had a letdown. Georgia Tech’s 48-40 loss to Virginia is an example. Quarterback Jeff Sims has dealt with nagging injuries and has not taken a step in his development. Georgia Tech travels to Miami this weekend.
