Jim Leonhard, DC, Wisconsin

Nebraska football has tried to go the route of offensive-minded coach and now, it might be time to focus on defense.

The Huskers have had to deal with Jim Leonhard for a few years at Wisconsin and he’s gotten the best of Frost and the offense a few times. He also played in the NFL and knows the Big Ten.

Leonhard was nearly hired as the defensive coordinator for the Packers last offseason and wound up staying at Wisconsin, so he would be a really tough pull for the Huskers but he would be among my first phone calls.

Nebraska has never really found an identity in the Big Ten West and while it should be able to compete with Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota every year, it just hasn’t been able to.

Leonhard would bring that identity and if Nebraska got back to playing really good defense and running the football, it could probably win a lot of games in the Big Ten West just like it did in the early years in the league under Bo Pelini.
