1. Michigan State is still very much alive for playoff

Michigan State still controls its own path to the playoff. This loss hurts obviously but they still have a huge game on the schedule against Ohio State.

If the Spartans were able to beat Ohio State in a few weeks while also winning the remaining games on their schedule they would be the winner of the Big Ten East and go on to play in the Big Ten title game. This would also mean that they would hold two top-10 wins on the season. Something that many teams cannot say they have on their resume. Purdue can say this right now as they have two top-10 wins over Michigan State and Iowa, but are not in the spot like the Spartans are sitting at 8-1 on the season at the moment.

Obviously going on the road to Ohio State is not going to be easy, but because the Buckeyes are ranked so high they have the opportunity to move back up into the playoff discussion if they were able to defeat the Buckeyes.

The Spartans should also be rooting for chaos for other teams that are in the playoff hunt as well. Still a lot of season left to just knock the Spartans out of the playoff race after their loss today against Purdue. It is going to be a wild ride through the back end of the season like usual.
