Miscues and missed opportunities are the story once again in the Cornhuskers’ loss to Ohio State.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers found themselves on the losing side of a close loss once against, falling to the Ohio State Buckeyes 26-17 at home in Lincoln this afternoon. The Cornhuskers’ defense held the Buckeyes to 26 points, 21 points below their season average.

Ohio State ran for 90 yards on 30 rushes, 110 yards below their season average. Ohio State did not have any issues throwing the football despite Garrett Wilson not playing due to an unspecified injury. Quarterback C.J. Stroud threw for 405 yards and two touchdowns against Nebraska’s defense.

Nebraska football held Ohio State to just nine points in the second half of the game but could not muster enough offense to overtake the Buckeyes.

Offensively, it was the same story for the Huskers. Quarterback Adrian Martinez was asked to do it all once again. Martinez was good (16-for-31, 248 yards, and one touchdown) but not great. Martinez chipped in 51 rushing yards, 21 coming on one rush.

In addition to pedestrian offensive play, mistakes and miscues haunted the Cornhuskers once again. Nebraska football missed two field goals and struggled to sustain drives all game long.

Here are three takeaways from the game.
