Irish need to get Michael Mayer involved more in the offense

Michael Mayer has been very quiet these last few weeks. This cannot happen for a player who many to be considered one of best, if not the best tight end in college football right now. Today against Navy Michael Mayer only had 4 receptions for 28 yards.

In the last two weeks alone Mayer has only had nine receptions total. Against Cincinnati, Wisconsin, Toledo, and Florida State the talented sophomore tight end had at least seven receptions each game. Mayer was injured late in the game against Cincinnati which resulted in him missing the following week against Virginia Tech, so maybe that was why he was a little bit of a non factor the last few weeks but looks healthy now.

TV analyst Drew Brees mentioned it multiple times that Mayer is just way too talented to not be Involved more for the Irish on offense. Offensive coordinator Tommy Rees has to find different ways of getting the ball into Michael Mayer hands. especially in the red zone. Mayer is way too talented to not be getting close to double digit receptions week after week for Notre Dame.

Hopefully the rest of the season we see more of number 87 running and scoring touchdowns for the Irish.
