NC State picked up what I thought would be a tricky road win over Florida State on Saturday afternoon. I thought that the Seminoles would put up more of a fight, but I was impressed to see the Wolfpack score a touchdown in every quarter to hang on for a 28-14 win. They are alive in a wide-open ACC title race.

Wake Forest will remain in the Top 25 despite losing to an unranked North Carolina team, but that blown 18-point lead in the second half will forever haunt Dave Clawson and Co. because it may have just cost his team a playoff berth. Sam Hartman had seven total touchdowns but it wasn’t enough as Wake Forest lost its first game and is probably no longer a playoff threat unfortunately.

Matt Corral had another solid game as he led the Rebels to a 24-0 halftime lead before coasting to a 27-14 win. It wasn’t the most impressive win in the country, but Liberty is not a pushover with Hugh Freeze leading that program to relevancy. Ole Miss is alive in the race for a New Year’s Six bowl and it should jump into the top 15.

BYU trounced a really poor FCS opponent in Idaho State in Week 10, so we shouldn’t expect much of a jump, if any from the Cougars here. Jaren Hall had yet another big game and the Cougars look like one of the best non-Power Five teams in the country. Maybe they’re New Year’s Six worthy?

Oklahoma State fans may be disappointed with this week’s playoff rankings because I think the Cowboys stay put. But let’s say Oklahoma State wins out and beats Oklahoma in the regular season as well as in the Big 12 title game, the playoff committee will have no choice but to give a 12-1 Cowboy team the nod to make the top four.
