1. The Virginia defense has been a huge problem

As mentioned earlier in the article the Virginia defense is just not very good. There really is no other way to say it. According to the NCAA stats as of Nov. 6 the Virginia defense comes into this game as being the 122nd ranked team in total defense. It gets even worse when you realize that there are 130 teams in the FBS. This means that there are only eight teams with worse total defenses in college football when it comes to the FBS level.

Notre Dame’s offense has had its ups and downs throughout the year. The Irish have had no problem putting up points against similar defenses compared to Virginia, and even better defense so far this year. The Irish have a good combination of passing and rushing going for them right now especially as of late.

The Cavaliers have given up at least 28 points six times so far this season. To expand on that they have also given up at least 40 points three times as well. Notre Dame on the other hand has scored at least 27 points in eight of their games, and have scored at least 30 points in seven of their nine games.

Notre Dame has played and been successful against a lot better defensive units than Virginia and will have more success against a struggling Virginia defense who really has been bad with getting off the field all season long. If you are a betting person go ahead and take the Notre Dame point total over against Virginia.

Final prediction: Notre Dame 42, Virginia 30
