Sometimes Thursday night football games are not the best but this matchup between Pitt football and North Carolina was a good matchup especially late in the game. Pittsburgh was able to hold off North Carolina 30-23 in overtime to secure another win on the season to improve to 8-2.

The Panthers came out firing right out of the gate and were leading 17-0 over the Tar Heels after the first quarter. North Carolina got on the scoreboard midway through the second quarter after a 76 yard touchdown pass from Sam Howell to senior wide receiver Antoine Green to cut the score to 17-7. Pittsburgh then answered with another touchdown to take a 23-7 lead after a missed extra point into halftime.

Have to give North Carolina credit for coming out in the second half and keeping Pittsburgh off the scoreboard to at least get to overtime. Once overtime hit Pittsburgh woke up and was able to put any chances of a huge comeback win for North Carolina in the rearview mirror.

With the win Thursday night Pittsburgh finds itself one game closer to clinching the ACC Coastal division and taking on the winner of the ACC Atlantic division later on next month in the conference championship game. The Panthers have a huge game next week against Virginia. With a win over the Cavaliers next week Pittsburgh would clinch their birth as the ACC Coastal division winner.
