We should have known from the first game that featured a team in the CFP rankings that Week 11 was going to be wild.
Pitt built a 23-7 lead on Thursday night over North Carolina but the Tar Heels stormed back in the second half to tie things up and send the game into overtime. The Panthers hung on to win by a touchdown in a rain-filled overtime battle and their ACC title hopes live on while Mack Brown and Sam Howell stumble to yet another disappointing loss.
Michigan found itself on the ropes on Saturday afternoon, down 17-14 in the fourth quarter at Penn State, but the Wolverines swung back and took the lead and shut the door. At the same time, No. 8 Oklahoma went down via upset at Baylor and the Sooners’ playoff hopes may now be over. The other shocker in the early slate was Mississippi State’s comeback win over No. 17 Auburn on the road.
In the 3:30 slate, Georgia faced one of its toughest tests of the season in a road battle against high-powered Tennessee. The Bulldogs shook off a 7-0 deficit to win 41-17. Ohio State took Purdue down a notch, blowing out the Boilermakers 59-31.
At night, we saw some elite matchups as Ole Miss held on to beat Texas A&M in a classic that went down to the wire before the Rebels scored two quick touchdowns late to put the game away. Notre Dame won big on the road over Virginia and LSU took Arkansas to overtime before the Razorbacks won by a field goal.
