Cincinnati football will do their best to slow down Tanner Mordecai (Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports) /

No 3. SMU QB Tanner Mordecai meets his kryptonite in Cincinnati’s defense

Opposing quarterbacks have never thrown more than 245 yards against Cincinnati’s defense this season, an impressive feat.

However, SMU QB Tanner Mordecai has never thrown less than 245 yards all season. He’s an absolute gunslinger. He 7th in the nation in passing (3,264 yards) and 2nd in passing touchdowns (37).

There’s reason to think Mordecai and SMU will be able to push this Cincinnati defense to its limits. The Bearcats gave up a season-high 28 points last week and SMU averages more than 41 points per game— which will prevail?

Conventional wisdom says Fickell and his sixth-ranked defense will be too much for Mordecai, who’s prone to throwing interceptions, averaging at least one a game.

The Bearcats, who have recorded 16 interceptions so far this season, will make him pay for errant passes.
