Notre Dame football is firmly in the playoff hunt for the third time in four years and this season’s push for the CFP has been especially impressive because it’s been with a shaky quarterback situation.

In fact, the Irish have shuffled between all three of their quarterbacks this season and they’re still not fully comfortable with Jack Coan as QB1, but he’s proven more than the others.

Now the Irish will face Georgia Tech which is riding a four-game losing streak and has already been dropped from bowl consideration with a 3-7 record.

Notre Dame has to make sure not to overlook the Yellow Jackets because they’re better than their 3-7 record suggests. Let’s get bold ahead of this big matchup in South Bend.

3. Michael Mayer catches two touchdown passes

Michael Mayer has been one of the best tight ends in the country this season, catching 52 passes for 577 yards and four touchdowns but he hasn’t seen the touchdown a ton since the beginning of the year.

In fact, Mayer had three touchdown catches in the first two games of the season and he has just one since. He’s going to change that on Saturday.

The talented tight end will have one of his best games of the season, catching seven passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns. It’ll be his second such game with two touchdowns on the year and he’ll help his case for the Mackey Award.

Mayer is having a career year and it’s not even over yet.
