After cruising to victory against Michigan State, should Ohio State football be considered favorites to make the national championship?

Ohio State football entered Saturday as nearly three-touchdown favorites against Michigan State, but some thought that the Spartans would be able to keep the game close. This game was never in doubt and Ohio State was up by as many as 49 points in the first half of the game. This was a great display by the Buckeyes’ offense, as they were able to showcase the kind of firepower that they possess in a 56-7 win.

This might have been a top-10 matchup on paper, but the biggest mismatch of the game was Ohio State’s passing attack going against the 130th ranked passing defense. Michigan State has not done well against the pass all season and it was never more evident than in the first half of this game. Ohio State wide receivers Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson were winning their matchups and making big plays down the field seemingly every drive. Quarterback C.J. Stroud was surgical and even set the Ohio State record for consecutive completions.

This was also a great job by the Ohio State defense. Kenneth Walker III was the Heisman front runner coming into the game and Ohio State has had trouble stopping the run this season at times. Walker was never able to get going and that spelled trouble for the Spartans early. Michigan State has been a great story all season, but they were outmatched in this game the entire way and they are going to have to find a way to bounce back from this humiliation this week.

Here are my three takeaways from Ohio State’s victory over Michigan State.
