It was senior day in South Bend for a lot of the Notre Dame football players and they deserved to be sent out in style for the successful seasons they have had wearing the blue and gold.

Those seniors were sent out in a very impressive fashion after a dominating shutout win over Georgia Tech by a final score of 55-0 inside Notre Dame Stadium.

Notre Dame came into the game only scoring 35 points all year in the first quarter but exploded to an obvious season-high of 24 points. They really were clicking on all cylinders on both sides of the ball.

The Irish have been on a roll ever since their early October loss to Cincinnati and definitely are seen as one of the hottest teams in the country.

One thing that cannot be said enough is how well the Notre Dame defense has played this year. The offense has been really solid as well but the defense is playing extremely well as of late. They are playing great ball without their All-American safety who was injured against USC and has not played at all ever since the injury.

At the beginning of the year, there were some people questioning the hire of defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman but those people are silent now. Freeman has the Irish defense locked in and loaded on the opponent.

The last touchdown scored against the Irish defense was with 7:43 left in the fourth quarter after a Sam Howell touchdown run on October 30th. That means the Irish have held their opponents out of the end zone for 12 straight quarters. That is not easy at all no matter who the opponent is overall.

With the victory over Georgia Tech, a huge milestone was reached by Notre Dame. The Irish have now won at least 10 games in five consecutive years for the first time in program history.
