Florida Football: 3 reasons Billy Napier is the right coach for the Gators

1. The Florida job is not without its challenges

The ceiling for Florida is winning the National Championship. The Gators were the last “first” team to win a National Title. In the decade since Urban Meyer left Gainsville, the landscape in Florida recruiting has changed exponentially.

Georgia, Alabama, and Ohio State all have routinely recruited the top players in the state. The Gators have been unable to gain a foothold in Florida recruiting. Mullen did not do it even with Miami and Florida State both down.

One of the reasons Florida has fallen behind in recruiting is facilities. The Gators began building their football-only facility in 2022. Florida had fallen behind many schools in the SEC and schools that recruit the region in terms of facilities.

The one school that Florida has fallen behind is rival Georgia. If Florida wants to recruit on Georiga’s level, they need Georiga’s amenities.

Scott Stricklin and the Florida brass have to know that this will not be a quick turnaround. Napier likely won’t do what Mullen did early in his tenure. The offensive line needs work, and the defense is terrible.

Is the job too big for Napier? That is an important question. How much patience will the Gators have? That is an equally important question. Florida is not an easy job but it has an incredible ceiling.
